The American Antitrust Institute (AAI) has announced that the DC Consumer Rights Coalition, in cooperation with the Antitrust and Consumer Law Section of the District of Columbia Bar and the Antitrust Committee of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, will present a telephone conference on November 12th: The U.S. Airways-American Airlines Merger: The View from Washington, D.C. Diana Moss, Vice President of the AAI, will participate.

The merger of U.S. Airways and American Airlines was significant and highly visible. Following a lengthy investigation and Congressional hearings, the U.S. Department of Justice, several states, and the District of Columbia filed a complaint to block the merger. Before trial got underway, the government accepted a settlement that seemed significantly different from the allegations in the complaint. Was the merger as anticompetitive as the complaint made it out to be? Or was the settlement inadequate, as some critics alleged? And what is the court’s proper role in reviewing merger settlements? Those interested are invited to join the expert panel for a lively discussion of the issues, with a particular focus on the merger’s impact on Washington D.C.

The panel will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, 3:30 to 5:00 PM.

There is no charge. Email: programinfodonresnikofflaw@mail.com to register, and call in information for the teleconference will be e-mailed to you.
