The Canada Competition Bureau issued a No Action Letter concerning Manulife Financial Corporation’s proposed acquisition of Standard Life plc. Both companies provide group retirement and benefits services, as well as individual wealth products, which typically include group pension and retirement savings plans; health, dental, and disability plans; and a range of personal savings and investment products.

It is unlikely that the transaction will cause substantial lessening or prevention of competition, noted the Canadian agency in a November 14 statement, particularly in light of the remaining competitors in the marketplace for individual wealth products, group benefits, and group retirement services.

Companies: Manulife Financial Corp.; Standard Life plc
