    CFTC NEWS AND SPEECHES—The inaugural meeting of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Innovation Advisory Committee will be held August 20, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. EDT. The committee, formerly called the Technology Advisory Committee, was relaunched in January to advise the CFTC on innovation in financial markets. Topics will include crypto assets, artificial intelligence, and prediction markets. A press release proclaims that “[t]his council of American innovators, entrepreneurs, thinkers, and builders will provide insights and recommendations to the Commission to help ensure its regulations keep pace with the rapid speed of innovation on the new frontier of finance.” Members of the committee will meet in person, with a livestream available to the public on the Commission’s website. The public may also submit comments until August 27.

    EXCHANGES AND MARKET REGULATION—FlightAware LLC has filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court Southern District of New York against Kalshi Inc., KalshiEX LLC, Kalshi Klear Inc., and Kalshi Klear LLC (together, “Kalshi” or “Defendant”) for injunctive relief and damages. According to the filing, Kalshi is using FlightAware’s data and name to run gambling markets on flight cancellations. “Despite entering into a binding agreement not to use FlightAware’s data for commercial purposes, including in connection with gambling or prediction markets, Kalshi has built flight-cancellation betting pages verified by FlightAware’s data, displayed FlightAware’s registered trademark on the betting pages and connected to the settlement of its betting contracts, and continued after FlightAware demanded that it stop,” FlightAware stated.

    EXCHANGES AND MARKET REGULATION—CME Group announced it will launch the world’s first index-based Hockey futures on September 28, pending regulatory review. The new contracts will track CME FutureSports Performance Indexes that include exclusive, real-time National Hockey League (NHL) statistics beginning with the 2026-2027 season. CME Group Hockey futures will be available in standard-sized contracts, valued at 10x the value of the underlying CME FSPI NHL indexes, and micro-sized contracts that are 1/10 the value of those indexes.

    INVESTOR EDUCATION—NFA will host a webinar for investors titled "NFA Investor Education: What to Know Before Investing" on Wednesday, August 19, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. CT/4:00-5:00 p.m. ET. The webinar will cover topics such as how to conduct due diligence, investor best practices, and cybersecurity reminders, among other things. The webinar is free to attend but registration is required.

    MUNICIPAL SECURITIES NEWS—The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) announced that it has elected four new board members who will serve four-year terms beginning on October 1, 2026. The announcement follows MSRB’s fourth quarterly Board meeting of FY2026, where Alexander Chilton was elected to serve as board chair and Pamela Frederick was elected to serve as vice chair for one-year terms beginning on October 1, 2026. The new public members joining the MSRB Board in FY2027 are Jonathan Fiebach, former CEO of Ficc.ai Corp., and David Womack, deputy director, financing policy and coordination, New York City Office of Management and Budget. New regulated members joining the board are Elizabeth Coolidge, head of public finance, Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., and Jeff White, managing member, Columbia Capital Management, LLC. In addition, Vivian Altman, head of northeast banking at Huntington Capital, will return to the Board for a three-year term beginning on October 1, 2026.
