A periodic roundup of other items of interest to the Antitrust and Trade Regulations community:
ANTITRUST NEWS: The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has issued a statement of objections to pharmaceutical suppliers Pfizer and Flynn Pharma, claiming that the companies breached U.K. and European Union (EU) competition law by charging excessive, unfair prices in the United Kingdom for phenytoin sodium capsules. The statement of objections concerns the prices Pfizer charged Flynn Pharma, as well as the prices that Flynn Pharma has charged its customers since September 2012. “The prices that the CMA is concerned about in this case are very high compared to those prices previously charged and have led to a big increase in the total NHS drug bill for what is a very important drug for tens of thousands of patients,” stated CMA Senior Director of Antitrust Enforcement, Ann Pope.
AGENCY NEWS: In an effort to expand and strengthen its Cartels and Criminal Group, the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has appointed Deborah Wilkie as Director of Civil Cartel Enforcement. Wilkie will join existing Director Juliette Enser to lead an expanded civil cartel enforcement team. She will also act as project director on Competition Act cartel cases and will play a leading role in the CMA’s policy work on cartels and leniency. Wilkie was previously an Assistant Director in the CMA’s civil cartel enforcement team.
