A federal judge’s careful experiments with GenAI provide insights for safe and productive use for legal tasks.

How are federal courts using GenAI? Judges are taking a wide variety of approaches, with some courts banning it while others embrace it.

Judge Xavier Rodriguez of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas believes the key to effective GenAI use is to focus on “high-value, low-risk” uses. In a new Vital Briefing, Wolters Kluwer Senior Legal Analyst Lene Powell discusses what attorneys can learn from Judge Rodriguez’s experiments with GenAI.
