New tariffs also impose a 100 percent tariff on branded pharmaceuticals, with limited exceptions including for Pfizer, which plans to launch a “TrumpRX” marketing initiative next year.

In the latest Tariff Insights, Thomas Thompson discusses new levies on timber imports, which President Donald Trump has said implicate national security. The latest tariffs impose graduated taxes on softwood timber and lumber, certain upholstered furniture, and kitchen cabinets and vanities.

Thompson also explains a new 100 percent tariff on branded or patented pharmaceutical products as of October 1, 2025. President Donald Trump stated an exception for companies “BUILDING their Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant in America,” defined as breaking ground or under construction. In addition, Pfizer received a three-year grace period in connection with plans for a 2026 launch of a “TrumpRX” direct-to-consumer discounted drug program to be operated by the federal government.
