Verizon Communications, Inc., has joined Project Glasswing, an effort organized by Anthropic to give a limited number of organizations access to Anthropic’s Claude Mythos2 AI (artificial intelligence) model, Verizon announced Friday.

Anthropic decided against public release of Claude Mythos2 because the model is so capable of finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities that hackers are likely to misuse it. Instead, Anthropic has allowed trusted organizations to use the model to improve their own cybersecurity (CPR, April 8).

Verizon will join Amazon Web Services, Apple, Inc., Google LLC, Microsoft Corp., and other Project Glasswing participants to improve Verizon’s “ability to identify and contain complex vulnerabilities” in its networks, the company said in a news release.

“Our customers rely on the security of our network every day. As part of Project Glasswing, we are able to test and improve our cybersecurity efforts with new insights to maintain our network’s security,” said Dan Schulman, Verizon’s chief executive officer.

“Over the past several months, our information security team has been rigorously testing this critical new technology to determine its benefits to our network,” Mr. Schulman said. “By using Mythos Preview, we are uniquely positioned to share cross-industry insights that will help secure the global internet fabric and support our mission to deliver a safe and reliable experience for every customer.”
