The UK tax agency has updated its guidance on the reporting of income from digital platforms.

The guidance explains the obligation on taxpayers to report income above GBP1,000 in the period April 6 to April 5 each year that is derived from selling goods online for profit, including items that the taxpayer has made, providing a service through an online platform, creating online content, or renting out land or property.

The guidance notes that income from the sale of personal possessions through a digital platform normally does not attract income tax. However, where such items are sold for more than GBP6,000, capital gains tax applies.
