The United Arab Emirates' Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has set out corporate tax registration deadlines that apply from this year.
The newly released decision applies from March 1, 2024.
It begins by stipulating deadlines applicable to resident persons incorporated, established, or "otherwise recognized" prior March 1, 2024, based on the month in which a trade license was granted, regardless of the year, as follows:
May 31, 2024, for licenses granted in January or February;
June 30, 2024, for licensed granted in March or April;
July 31, 2024, for licenses granted in May;
August 31, 2024, for licenses granted in June;
September 30, 2024, for licenses granted in July;
October 31, 2024, for licenses granted in August or September;
November 30, 2024, for licenses granted in October or November; and
December 31, 2024, for licenses granted in December.
If a juridical person does not have a license by March 1, 2024, they must register by May 31, 2024. A person with multiple licenses must register based on the date on which the last license was granted.
From March 1, 2024, newly formed resident juridical persons must register for corporate tax within three months of the date of incorporation, establishment, or recognition.
A non-resident entity with a permanent establishment in the UAE prior to March 1, 2024, must register for corporate tax within nine months of the existence of the permanent establishment, whereas a juridical person that is a non-resident person with a nexus in the country must apply to register by May 31, 2024.
Non-resident persons newly with a permanent establishment in the UAE on or after March 1, 2024, must register within six months, while a non-resident juridical person with a nexus in the country must register within three months.
Natural resident persons undertaking a business or business activity during the 2024 calendar year, where their turnover exceeds the registration threshold, must register by March 31 of the following year. Non-resident natural persons should register within three months of meeting the conditions for liability to UAE corporate income tax.
Registration should be undertaken through the EmaraTax platform, taking about 30 minutes to complete.
