Global Daily Tax News, Trump's New Truck Tariffs Delayed To November 1, (Oct 9, 2025)
US President Donald Trump has said the proposed tariffs on large trucks will be introduced a month later than originally announced – from November 1, 2025, and potentially to a broader range of vehicles.
In a brief October 7, 2025, statement on Truth Social, Trump stated: "Beginning November 1, 2025, all medium and heavy duty trucks coming into the United States from other countries will be tariffed at the rate of 25 percent."
Earlier, in his September 26, 2025, announcement, the President had said the same 25-percent tariff rate would apply from October 1, 2025, but only to "heavy trucks", stating: "In order to protect our great heavy truck manufacturers from unfair outside competition, I will be imposing, as of October 1, 2025, a 25 percent tariff on all "heavy (big!) trucks" made in other parts of the world. Therefore, our great large truck company manufacturers, such as Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Mack Trucks, and others, will be protected from the onslaught of outside interruptions. We need our truckers to be financially healthy and strong, for many reasons, but above all else, for national security purposes!"
The President has yet to issue an Executive Order that would confirm implementation and the tariff's scope.
