Switzerland's Council of States has approved a proposal from the Federal Council endorsing the international exchange of information on global minimum top-up taxes under Pillar Two based on the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on the Exchange of GloBE Information (GIR-MCAA).

Switzerland signed up to the GIR-MCAA on August 28, 2025, joining 15 other jurisdictions then in committing to automatically exchange information received from multinational groups between signatories, to ease the administrative burden on companies by reducing the need to file GloBE information in multiple jurisdictions.

Swiss lawmakers in the Council of States, voting in December, agreed that multinationals should be able to submit this information centrally in a single country, voting in favor of participation in exchanges under the GIR-MCAA starting this year, by 37 votes to 1.

The proposal has now been sent to the National Council for its approval.
