The South African Revenue Service has announced it will require employers to submit payroll data monthly starting March 1, 2025.

The changes are as part of modernization efforts being undertaken by the agency, SARS said, "to replace the current employees' tax, provisional tax, and assessment filing seasons for employers and non-business individuals with a modern, fully automated tax assessment, withholding, and paying to SARS of tax due system."

In advance of the change, the agency has released specifications for the change, to support the necessary adaptions.
