A former U.S. House of Representatives member, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, was named by incoming President Trump back in November.
On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Senate’s Health, Education Labor & Pensions (HELP) committee will hold a full committee hearing in which it will hear from Lori M. Chavez-DeRemer, a former single-term U.S. House Member and Republican who is President Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Labor. The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. EST and will be live-streamed.
Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA), who worked with Rep. DeRemer on the House’s Committee on Education and the Workforce, said in November of her nomination: “I wish to offer my congratulations to my colleague Congresswoman Chavez-DeRemer on her nomination to lead the U.S. Department of Labor. I have worked with Congresswoman Chavez-DeRemer for the past two years on the Committee on Education and the Workforce, and she has shown a willingness to work in a bipartisan manner and support policies that benefit workers, such as the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act.”
According to Ms. DeRemer’s biography in the U.S. House of Representatives’ Biographical Directory, as well as a White House release, prior to taking her place as an elected U.S. Representative, she served for seven years as a town mayor in Oregon, and, prior to that, five years on the same city’s council, as both a member and president.
