Cybersecurity Policy Report, Senate Advances Nominee to Lead State Department’s Cyber Bureau, (Jul 31, 2026)
Adam Cassady’s nomination to lead the State Department’s Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy advanced in the Senate late yesterday when senators voted 50-47 for a resolution authorizing en bloc consideration of 74 nominees. A final confirmation vote hasn’t been scheduled.
Mr. Cassady, the deputy head of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, was nominated by President Trump in March to be the State Department’s ambassador at large–cyberspace and digital policy, a Senate-confirmed role established by the 2022 Cyber Diplomacy Act.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted 17-5 in May to advance Mr. Cassady’s nomination (CPR, May 4).
