Securities Regulation Daily Wrap Up, SEC NEWS AND SPEECHES—Valuable, comprehensive variety of data visualizations and statistics on SEC’s new page, (Aug 13, 2025)
By Rebecca E. Hoffman, J.D.
SEC chair Paul S. Atkins applauds the agency’s transparency in a press release, calling the page “an unprecedented window into the capital markets.”
In an Aug. 13 press release, the SEC announced the launch of a new “statistics and data visualization” page on the SEC website, containing data and interactive graphics illustrating a number of important aspects of the U.S. capital markets.
Examples include a time series chart showing numbers of initial public offerings, a heat map showing Regulation CF offerings numbers by location, and a pie chart showing numbers of registered transfer agents by regulatory agency and size. Also available are charts showing numbers of investors participating in capital markets.
Visualizations can be viewed in full screen. Users can hover over sections for more information, and radio buttons allow the user to transform the data, such as by changing an annual chart to a quarterly chart. Sources and calculation methods are provided, and data may be downloaded.
“I have long believed that greater transparency is essential to serving the public effectively,” Atkins said in the release, “and this new webpage is another step toward making our work more accessible.” Dr. Robert Fisher, the acting chief economist and director of the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis, pointed out that users can follow how the information changes over time.
