Cybersecurity Policy Report, Privacy Watchdog Files Complaint Against Greek Supermarket Chain, (Aug 13, 2024)
The European Center for Digital Rights (NOYB) has filed a complaint with the Greek data protection authority against Greek supermarket chain Alfa Vita (AB) alleging that AB failed to comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regarding individuals’ right to access data collected about them.
AB’s loyalty card program collects personal data from its customers for profiling purposes, NOYB said in a news release. The complainant in NOYB’s complaint requested information gathered through the loyalty program but was only provided with a list of her transactions and her contact details.
The complaint requests an investigation into AB’s processing operations and an order that AB comply with the complainant’s access request. NOYB also suggests that the DPA impose a fine of up to 4% of AB’s annual revenue to deter from future violations.
