The Brazilian data protection authority, the National Authority for Protection of Data (ANPD), has been unanimously elected to serve as the presiding authority for the Ibero-American Data Protection Network (RIPD) for the period from 2025 through 2027.

The ANPD was elected on May 26 during the 21st meeting of the RIPD in Colombia. In a news release, ANPD said its election “reinforces the international protagonism of the ANPD and represents another important step in the consolidation of Brazil as a global reference in personal data protection and digital governance.”

The RIPD consists of more than 20 countries from Latin America, North America, and Europe. The coalition is organized for the purpose of strengthening institutional cooperation, promoting the exchange of good practices, and encouraging the harmonization of legislation on privacy and data protection in the Ibero-American region.
