Cybersecurity Policy Report, Poland Updates Data Breach Guidance, (Feb 20, 2025)
The Polish data protection authority, Urzad Ochrony Danych Osobowych (UODO), has released an updated version of its guide on personal data breaches, it announced today.
The first edition of the guide was published in 2018, and the latest version takes into account current regulations, experience resulting from the current application of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the results of public consultations. The guide is available on UODO’s website in Polish only.
Before updating the guide, UODO conducted public consultations, in which all interested parties could participate. During the meetings, UODO received numerous opinions and comments allowing it to adapt the content of the document to the current challenges and needs of data processors, it said.
The updated guide takes into account the latest interpretations of regulations, case law, and practical tips to help data controllers make the right decisions in the event of a personal data breach. The updates include updated procedures for responding to breaches; practical examples and case studies; guidelines on cooperation with the president of UODO and other supervisory authorities; and key recommendations for risk assessment and breach prevention.
UODO plans to organize a seminar during which experts will discuss the most important issues contained in the guide, it said. The event will allow interested parties to ask questions and exchange experiences between participants. Detailed information on the date and program of the seminar will be provided on the UODO website.
