Global Daily Tax News, Pakistan To Create 145 Tax Offices In Enforcement Push, (Nov 21, 2023)
Pakistan's Federal Board of Revenue has announced the creation of 145 district tax offices, as part of efforts to boost the number of taxpayers in the country.
The Government said the new offices, which will report to district tax offices, will work to bring between 1.5 and two million new taxpayers into the tax net by June 2024.
The tax agency said it intends to use financial data at its disposal to detect non-compliance. Further, it has said it will deploy new powers, contained in Section 114B of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, to disconnect a taxpayer's utilities and block a taxpayer's SIM card if they do not respond to notices issued by the agency.
