Pakistan's Federal Board of Revenue on January 29, 2025, has issued a notification providing for the introduction of new rules on all registered persons to electronically link their electronic fiscal devices with the tax agency.

The notification says all registered persons must register, install, and integrate their electronic invoicing hardware and software with the Board's computerized system and report such linkage through the online platform. The notification precludes registered persons from carrying out transactions other than through these linked devices, which must be capable, among other things, of issuing electronic invoices in the prescribed format, as described in the notification, which must then be validated through the agency's systems.

The information provided by taxpayers will be used to pre-fill taxpayers' sales tax returns, the agency said.

The notification further requires that taxpayers establish CCTV monitoring in the area where such devices are used, and the recordings must be stored for at least one month and provided on request.
