Complaints attribute the problem to a rear brake hose failure.

A preliminary evaluation has been opened by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) to assess complaints alleging loss of braking ability in 2015-2017 Ford Edge vehicles. An estimated 368,309 vehicles are potentially involved (NHTSA ODI Investigation, No. PE24027 (Oct. 3, 2024)).

ODI has received 36 complaints stating that the loss of braking ability occurs while braking and is caused by a rear brake hose failure. The complaints also assert that the loss occurs without any prior warning and results in an increase in stopping distance. Some complaints allege previous brake repairs prior to the failure, some referencing NHTSA Recall 20V469.

The agency is opening this investigation to determine the scope and severity of the alleged problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related consequences.
