The automaker will perform an over-the-air software update to remedy the issue.

Tesla, Inc. is recalling approximately 48,184 2018-2022 Model 3 Performance vehicles because the unit of speed (mph or km/h) may fail to display on the speedometer while in Track Mode. Consequently, the driver may not know how fast the vehicle is traveling without the mph or km/h unit display, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, in this condition, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 101, Control and Displays (NHTSA Recall Notice, No. 22V263, Report receipt date: April 18, 2022).

Remedy. Tesla will perform an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 6, 2022.

Contact information. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla’s number for this recall is SB-22-00-008. Owners also may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
