By Tony Foley
The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) today announced that it had extended the deadline for accepting comments on its draft rules to implement specified provisions of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA).
The draft rules, originally published in January, are designed to strengthen the legal framework for the protection of personal data by providing necessary details about various implementation issues, including required elements of notices to data principals, registration requirements, and the establishment of reasonable security safeguards, among other topics (CPR, Jan. 6).
In today’s news release, MeitY said that, in response to representations received from several stakeholders the deadline for receipt of feedback and comments on the proposed rule has been extended from Feb. 18 to March 5. Comments may be submitted on MeitY’s MyGov portal.
