State Tax Day - Current, S.20, Minnesota—Property Tax: Guidance Provided for One-Time Increase in Homestead Credit Refunds, (Jun 10, 2026)
Minnesota has released guidance for homeowners on the one-time increase in homestead credit refunds for 2025, which was included in H.B. 2438, Laws 2026. Homeowners who have already filed their 2025 homestead credit refund returns do not need to take any additional action, as the Department of Revenue will adjust their returns and increase their refunds automatically. Homeowners who have not yet filed their 2025 homestead credit refund returns have until August 15, 2027, to file for the 2025 refund. Homeowners can file for free using the department's online filing system. The department is working to update the online filing system to reflect the one-time increase, but homeowners can still file 2025 returns during this time. Refunds will be distributed in late summer and early fall.
