The Massachusetts Senate Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure voted yesterday to advance a bill that would allow businesses to sign up for the do-not call list.

SB 272 modifies the definition of “consumer” to include “associations, corporations, partnerships, limited partnerships, limited liability companies, or other entities operating in the Commonwealth that subscribe to residential or business telephone services.” The bill also removes the word “residential” from several sections of the statute and replaces “person” with “consumer” in other sections.

The bill (S.B. 272, Reg Sess.) has been referred to the Senate Ways and Means Committee.
