Malta recently enacted legislation to extend certain property tax incentives.

The extension covers the incentive for buildings that were constructed at least 20 years before transfer that have been vacant for at least seven years and were still vacant at the time of the transfer. These transactions benefit from an exemption from final withholding tax and an exemption from stamp duty on the first EUR750,000 in value.

The measure was extended by one year until January 31, 2026, in the Relief from Income Tax and from Duty on Documents and Transfers on Certain Property Transfers (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
