    Nationally-recognized patent lawyers Lisa Barons Pensabene, Marc Pensabene, and Filko Prugo are joining the New York office of O’Melveny & Meyers as partners in the Intellectual Property and Technology Practice, according to an April 7 announcement. The three were previously with Fitzpatrick Cella Harper & Scinto.

    Lisa Barens Pensabene will assume the role of firm-wide Head of Life Sciences Litigation. In nearly 25 years of practice, Barens Pensabene has led more than a dozen major pharmaceutical patent litigations. She has tried bench and jury cases, argued before the Federal Circuit, and led briefing to the U.S. Supreme Court. Barens Pensabene has represented many other top industry names, such as AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, and Novartis. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University (B.S.) and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D.), she is admitted to practice in New York and Delaware and is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Delaware Bar Association, the New York Intellectual Property Law Association, the Delaware Intellectual Property Law Association, and the National Association of Women Lawyers.

    Marc Pensabene is a patent litigator, focusing on complex litigation in areas such as computer hardware and software, digital communications, electronic commerce, image sensors, digital scanners, digital image editing, laser printers, video discs, automotive powertrain components, industrial turbocharger components, fire protection sprinklers, ophthalmic lens manufacturing systems, injection molding equipment, and surgical tools. He has extensive experience leading trial teams on behalf of industry leaders such as IBM, Canon, the Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Company, and the Schaeffler Group of companies and has litigated ANDA patent cases and copyright, trademark, and unfair competition matters. Pensabene graduated from State University of New York at Stony Brook (B.E., Electrical Engineering) and Brooklyn Law School (J.D.). He is admitted to practice in New York and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

    For almost 15 years, Prugo has focused his practice on life sciences patent litigation, with a particular emphasis on Hatch-Waxman litigation. He has extensive experience leading trial teams on behalf of pharmaceutical industry leaders and has served as lead trial counsel in federal district courts across the country. In the past four years, he has first-chaired three full ANDA trials. Prugo earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Toronto’s York University and a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, also in Toronto. He is currently completing a master’s in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University. Prugo is admitted to practice in New York and the Province of Ontario.
