Antitrust practitioner Howard Feller has been elected chair of the American Bar Association’s Section of Antitrust Law. He has 36 years of experience in antitrust litigation, and currently leads McGuireWoods’ Antitrust and Trade Regulation Department in Richmond.
An attorney with McGuireWoods since 1978, Feller concentrates his practice on antitrust litigation; civil, criminal, and merger antitrust investigations; antitrust audits; and antitrust compliance training. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, and his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
“This is a truly profound honor for Howard and for the firm,” stated McGuireWoods’ deputy managing partner for litigation, Terrence M. Bagley. “Howard has spent his entire career at the firm, and has headed up many of our largest antitrust matters. To be recognized nationally by his peers in this manner says a lot about his reputation.”
Feller has set a number of goals for the ABA’s Section of Antitrust Law during his term, including: (1) using digital video and distance learning alternatives to improve how programs and publications are delivered to section members; (2) increasing membership among plaintiff lawyers, government lawyers, and consumer protection lawyers; and (3) increasing outreach to antitrust and consumer protection lawyers in other countries in response to the rapid globalization of business. “Our challenge is to think about how the Section can be more of a thought leader on antitrust and consumer protection issues and practices, and make suggestions as to what we should be doing in this area” stated Feller. “I have asked our committees, task forces and editorial boards to put idea leadership on the agenda of their regular monthly meetings.”
“Howard Feller’s 36 years as an antitrust practitioner and more than 25 years of active service in the Section of Antitrust Law leadership have well prepared and equipped him to lead it,” said ABA President William C. Hubbard. “In the coming year, under Howard’s leadership, the Section will offer a broad range of programs, publications, and events for members and others interested in antitrust and consumer protection law.”
The Antitrust Section is recognized as a global leader in antitrust law education and programs. It is one of the ABA’s busiest sections, with 28 committees and 150 committee programs. The Section has more than 8,000 members and publishes a number of industry-leading newsletters and periodicals.
