Kendal Tyre, a franchising attorney in Nixon Peabody LLP’s Washington, D.C., office, has been appointed to the Trade Advisory Committee on Africa. The Committee provides the U.S. Trade Representative with policy advice on issues involving trade and development in sub-Saharan Africa. Tyre will serve on the Committee until March 2018, according to a Nixon Peabody release.

Tyre focuses his practice on counseling franchise, financial, food and beverage, manufacturing, and retail companies on international business transactions. Specifically, he counsels franchisor clients on domestic and foreign franchise laws and drafts and negotiates a range of commercial agreements, from international franchise and development agreements to license agreements and disclosure documents. His international practice involves clients in South Africa, Kenya, and the United Kingdom. Tyre is the author and editor of Franchising in Africa, published by LexNoir Foundation.

“Franchising has experienced phenomenal growth around the world and Africa is no exception,” Tyre said. “The saturation of Western markets, the relaxation of trade barriers, and the globalization of business have pushed franchisors to new African markets to distribute their products and services. My franchise practice is at the forefront of this industry trend.”

Nixon Peabody is a global law firm with over 700 attorneys in offices in Albany, Boston, Buffalo, Chicago, Hong Kong, London, Long Island, Los Angeles, Manchester, New York, Providence, Rochester, San Francisco, Shanghai, Silicon Valley, and Washington, D.C.
