Kai Uwe-Kuhn, former Chief Economist at Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission, the European antitrust authority, has reaffiliated with Charles River Associates as a Senior Consultant to the firm's Antitrust & Competition Economics Practice, the firm recently announced.

Kuhn is an associate professor of economics at the University of Michigan and visiting professor at the Dusseldorf Institute for Competition Economics, Heinrich-Heine University Dusseldorf. Kuhn was Chief Economist at DG from 2011 to 2013 where he led a team of 25 economists involved in merger, antitrust, litigation, state aid, and policy work. Prior to his appointment at the DG Competition, Kuhn was an academic affiliate with Charles River, advising private companies and competition authorities on competition matters.

“We are excited to once again work with Kai-Uwe Kuhn as a Senior Consultant to Charles River Associates,” said the firm's President and Chief Executive Office Paul Maleh. “His first-hand and pragmatic understanding of mergers and antitrust issues, combined with his research in such areas as collusion, vertical integration, and financial constraints, provide a comprehensive understanding of the requirements for successful evidence in front of the regulatory authorities. We look forward to offering his valuable expertise to our clients.”

Kuhn is a Research Fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research in London. He has been the co-editor of the Journal of Industrial Economics and published in leading journals.

Before joining the faculty at the University of Michigan, Kuhn taught at the Instituto de Analisis Economico in Barcelona and the Centro de Estudios Monetarios y Financieros in Madrid. He received a PhD degree in Economics from the University of Oxford and an MSc degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Charles River Associates is a global consulting firm specializing in litigation, and regulatory, financial and management consulting. Founded in 1965 and headquartered in Boston, the firm has 19 offices in North America and Europe. The firm’s competition economists provide economic analysis and testimony in competition matters in the U.S., Europe, Australia, and Canada. Many have served in government antitrust agencies or are members of premier academic economics and law facilities.
