Sidley Austin LLP has added former U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division Assistant Chief Peter Huston to its global Antitrust Practice. He joins as a partner in the firm’s San Francisco office, the firm recently announced.

While serving as assistant chief in the Antitrust Division’s San Francisco office, Huston concentrated on criminal antitrust enforcement proceedings, cartel litigation, and merger clearance. He was also responsible for investigations conducted in coordination with foreign competition authorities, and he supervised all merger investigations and Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvement Act reviews conducted by the San Francisco office. Prior to joining the Antitrust Division, Huston spent 20 years in private practice, building a substantial civil antitrust litigation practice.

“San Francisco is an epicenter of cartel enforcement,” stated managing partner of Sidley’s San Francisco office, Sharon Flanagan. “Adding Peter to our already deep antitrust bench will enhance our capabilities, especially in the areas of criminal cartel enforcement and related civil litigation. Peter’s in-depth knowledge of the cartel practice in the Bay Area and his understanding of the inner workings of the Department of Justice will make him a valuable asset to our clients.”

Sidley Austin is an international law firm with over 1,800 lawyers in 18 offices across Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Latin America, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The firm provides legal services to global businesses and financial institutions.
