Elisabetta Righini has joined global law firm Latham & Watkins LLP as counsel in the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Practice. She joins the firm’s Brussels office from the European Commission, where she most recently served as legal advisor to former Competition Commissioner and Vice-President, Joaquín Almunia.

Righini has extensive experience in competition law and significant knowledge of EU law and decision-making. She served 15 years with the EC, initially as a member of the EC’s Legal Service and most recently as a senior member of the Cabinet and legal advisor. She has appeared in more than 100 cases before the European Courts and over 20 cases before the World Trade Organisation.

“Elisabetta’s experience not only complements our State aid capability but also our broader EU competition practice,” stated Global Co-chair of the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Practice, Sven B. Völcker. “She also has direct and very relevant experience that will help expand our merger control, cartels and monopolistic conduct investigations practices. As the level of complexity and economic importance of State aid and EU competition law cases continue to grow, having a lawyer of Elisabetta’s stature and acumen on the team will be a tremendous resource for our clients.”

“Latham & Watkins’ strong global platform and deep expertise in the world’s regulatory centres are unique and I am extremely pleased to join the firm and to be able to contribute to its continued growth,” Righini said. “Latham’s competition practice is among the best in the world and I look forward to joining this talented and formidable team.”

Latham & Watkins is an international law firm with roughly 2,100 lawyers. It has 32 offices across the globe, including locations in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.
