    A few law firms announced the expansion their IP practices in recent weeks.

    Several firms have recently expanded their IP practices by snagging IP practitioners from other firms. Latham & Watkins, ArentFox, and DLA Piper have added partners in their Washington, D.C. offices. Bond, Schoeneck & King expanded itKnobbe Martens announced that partner Mauricio Uribe is co-leading the newly established Washington State Intellectual Property Alliance (WA IPA), a chapter of the U.S. Intellectual Property Alliance (USIPA).

During October, WA IPA is leading q month-long celebration with an exclusive IP community event focused on diversity in the IP workplace, including perspectives from IP practitioners in private practice and at the USPTO. WA IPA will be ushering in the new year in January with an exclusive IP community event focused on diversity in the IP workplace, including perspectives from IP practitioners in private practice and at the USPTO. More information on this event will be available on the WA IPA’s website. Mauricio Uribe counsels clients on licensing strategy and developing and managing patent portfolios and intellectual property assets. He also prosecutes patent applications in both the electrical engineering and computer software fields.

    ArentFox Schiff has welcomed D. Reed Freeman as a partner in the firm’s Trademark and Copyright practices in Washington, DC. With nearly 30 years of experience, Freeman has represented clients in scores of FTC investigations and enforcement actions involving privacy, data security, advertising, and other consumer protection matters. He also defends clients in state consumer protection investigations and data breach responses and advises clients on compliance with state privacy laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act), data breach notification laws, international privacy laws, and federal and state advertising laws and rules. Reed previously spent three years at ArentFox and served as a staff attorney in the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. Freeman rejoins ArentFox from Venable LLP, where he was partner.

    DLA Piper has expanded its litigation practice with the addition of David Horniak as a partner in the firm’s Washington, DC office. The firm announced. Horniak has experience litigating complex civil and criminal cases at both the trial and appellate levels. He has successfully represented clients in a broad range of litigation areas, with a particular emphasis on intellectual property litigation, consumer class action defense, litigation and investigations brought by federal and state criminal, securities, and tax authorities, and legal malpractice defense.

    IP litigator Cecilia Sanabria has joined Latham & Watkins’ Washington, D.C. office as a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice and member of the Litigation & Trial Department, the firm announced. Sanabria brings significant experience with complex patent litigation matters involving mechanical, pharmaceutical, industrial, and electrical technologies, both in federal court and before the International Trade Commission (ITC).

    Bond, Schoeneck & King announced that Mark Beloborodov has joined the firm’s intellectual property practice in its Boston office as a member. Beloborodov is a seasoned IP attorney with an extensive background in representing technology companies ranging from early-stage ventures to multinational conglomerates in IP matters, and supporting innovation in the healthcare, information technology, lighting, consumer goods and electronics sectors. He joins Bond after serving in various in-house leadership roles, including almost 15 years at Royal Philips, where he advised his internal clients on a wide range of IP and corporate matters and oversaw large patent portfolios for lighting, consumer and healthcare businesses.
