Motley Rice LLP has announced that the firm is expanding its New York City office with antitrust attorneys Michael M. Buchman and John A. Ioannou joining the firm’s consumer fraud practice group. The firm has also relocated its New York office from Chelsea to Midtown East.

A new member of the firm, Buchman has more than 20 years experience in litigation antitrust, consumer protection, and privacy class actions in federal and state trial and appellate courts. He has a diverse background, having represented plaintiffs on issues such as price-fixing, monopolization, generic drug antitrust, and anticompetitive reverse payment agreements between brand name and generic pharmaceutical companies.

Buchman earned his LL.M. in International Antitrust and Trade Law from Fordham University School of Law, his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School, and his B.A. from Alfred University. Prior to private practice, Buchanan was an assistant attorney general in the New York State Attorney General’s Antitrust Bureau.

With 18 years of antitrust law experience, new associate Ioannou has sought monetary and equitable recoveries for consumers and businesses for anti-competitive conduct in antitrust matters. He litigates antitrust cases for a range of industries, including horizontal and vertical restraints of trade and monopolization claims.

Ioannou began his career as an assistant attorney general in the New York State Attorney General’s Antitrust Bureau. He earned his law degree from St. John’s University School of Law and his B.S. from St. John’s University.

“Through our expanded New York team and presence, Motley Rice will be providing legal services in all of its practice areas, including medical devices and pharmaceutical, catastrophic injury, aviation, occupational disease, and commercial litigation in New York,” said Donald A. Migliori, managing member of the New York City office.

Motley Rice LLC is one of the largest plaintiffs’ litigation firms, with more than 70 attorneys located in eight offices in California, Connecticut, Louisiana, New York, South Carolina, Rhode Island, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia. The firm handles complex litigation in numerous areas, including antitrust, consumer protection, securities fraud, environmental contamination, medical devices, aviation disasters, and wrongful death.
