In this month’s Labor Pulse, reflecting on an employee recruitment postcard he received in the mail from Amazon, Jim Castagnera ponders the “challenges inherent in organizing a huge, highly decentralized organization” that the Amazon Labor Union now faces following a recent NLRB decision finding the company unlawfully refused to bargain with the Teamsters affiliate.
Among other things, Amazon, according to Jim, claims to have retrained about 700,000 of its warehouse workers to interface with machines, sometimes called “cobots” by the company’s PR department.
