APWU members “overwhelmingly voted in favor of” ratification.
Late last week, the American Postal Worker Union, AFL-CIO (APWU) voted in favor of ratifying a three-year CBA between the union and employer, with 95 percent of those members who voted voting in favor of it.
“With absolutely no givebacks,” said APWU President and lead negotiator Mark Dimondstein, “the contract protects the great gains achieved over many years of struggle with the no-layoff protections, full COLA as a true buffer against inflation, regular step increases, the 50-mile limit on excessing, and the two-year automatic conversion from non-career to career. There are general wage increases for the next three years, significant advances in bridging the divisive two-tier wage structure, the first increase in night differential in 30 years, and many positive work-rule changes.”
One of the first matters to be addressed will be retroactive pay increases due to employees.
APWU and the USPS are in the process of finalizing a print version of the CBA and updating the Joint Contract Interpretation Manual; in the meantime, the summary terms of the Tentative Agreement can be found online.
APWU represents more than 190,000 clerks, mechanics, vehicle drivers, custodians, and employees in administrative positions.
