The Kansas state House voted 109-12 to pass a bill that would prohibit the use of TikTok on state-owned devices and on any state network.

According to HB 2314, any electronic device that is owned or issued to an employee by a state agency would not be allowed to be used to access a “social media platform of concern.” All state agencies must prohibit the installation of any application that allows users to access a social media platform of concern on any electronic device that is issued by the state agency. In addition, any network that is operated by a state agency must prohibit the use of social media platforms of concern by users who are accessing the network.

The bill defines a “social media platform of concern” to mean an “application or website that is owned or controlled by TikTok, a subsidiary or a successor company to TikTok or a company directly or indirectly controlled by TikTok.”
