Commissioner of Competition John Pecman announced yesterday the appointment of Richard Taylor to the position of Deputy Commissioner, Civil Matters Branch.

Taylor holds a Masters Degree in Economics and began his career at the Competition Bureau in 1983 as an investigator. Previously, Taylor has served as Deputy Commissioner of the Civil Matters Branch, and was appointed to the position of T.D. MacDonald Chair, where he has provided the Competition Bureau with advice on economic matters relating to competition policy.

“Richard brings extensive enforcement experience and a wealth of knowledge in competition policy to the Civil Matters Branch,” said Pecman.

Taylor succeeds Alison Tait, who joined the Bureau in April of last year. Tait is leaving to take on a new position at the Canadian Space Agency as Director General of Policy and External Relations. Taylor takes over on September 16, 2013.

“I would like to thank Alison Tait for her good work and dedication to the Competition Bureau,” added Pecman. “Alison has been a highly valued member of the Bureau’s senior management team. As Deputy Commissioner, she oversaw a number of high-profile enforcement matters and brought deep policy experience to the management table. I wish her much success in her future endeavors.”
