Prominent franchise attorney Steven M. Goldman has joined Parker, Hudson, Rainer & Dobbs, as a partner in its Atlanta office, according to a recent announcement. For the past 15 years, he was with Marriott International, serving as Executive Vice President, Associate General Counsel, and corporate officer.

Goldman is a commercial lawyer with extensive in-house, first chair experience in lodging, franchise, distribution, licensing, bankruptcy, and receivership. He joins Parker Hudson’s Franchise, Distribution, and Global Licensing practice group, which supports national and international businesses that distribute goods and services through licenses and distribution arrangements.

During his tenure at Marriott International, Goldman oversaw the growth of Marriott’s worldwide system to 19 core brands and from 1,100 franchise hotels to more than 3,700 units. Prior to Marriott, he was Divisional General Counsel for Sheraton and Senior Counsel with Holiday Inns. His day-to-day practice responsibilities have included transactional, counseling, and operations work. He has litigated franchise termination disputes, dealt with bankruptcy and receivership matters, handled the most complex and the most routine licensing transactions, and provided counseling solutions for innumerable franchise, intellectual property, and distribution law challenges.

A former Chairman of the American Bar Association Forum on Franchising, Goldman has served in leadership positions for the Forum on Franchising, the International Franchise Association, and the NASAA Franchise and Business Opportunities Project Group. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont and the University of Georgia School of Law and is admitted to practice in Georgia and the District of Columbia.
