“We do have authority over the federal courts,” Johnson stated. “We can eliminate an entire district court.”

At his weekly press conference held yesterday, Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, addressed recent injunctions issued by federal district courts in lawsuits brought based on the Trump administration’s wide-ranging and controversial post-inaugural actions, calling the rulings against the administration a “dangerous trend.”

“We do have authority over the federal courts, as you know" Johnson said. "We can eliminate an entire district court. We have power over funding, over the courts and all these other things. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and Congress is going to act."

Johnson also mentioned a bill under development that would limit the scope of federal injunctions, among other things.

Senator Chuck Schumer reportedly responded that it was “outrageous to even think of defunding the courts.”
