Global Daily Tax News, Guinea-Bissau Introduces Value-Added Tax, (Jan 6, 2025)
West African nation Guinea-Bissau introduced value-added tax on January 1, 2025.
The levy replaces the country's existing general sales tax regime, enabling taxpayers to newly claim input tax credits.
The territory had earlier proposed to implement the levy with effect from January 1, 2023, under Law No. 4/2022. The territory then deferred implementation after initially agreeing a delayed implementation date of July 1, 2023. The January 1, 2025, implementation date was confirmed in Order No. 130/GMF/2024, issued by local authorities on October 31, 2024.
The Government said the value-added tax regime is harmonized with the model agreed among West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) members with certain alterations made to adapt it to the circumstances of the nation.
