Health Law Daily Wrap Up, FOOD STANDARDS—NOTICES: FDA files petition to permit acetone use in carrot oil manufacturing, (Aug 25, 2026)
By WK Editorial Staff
FDA is seeking public input as it evaluates a petition that would permit acetone to be used in the manufacture of carrot oil and establish additional specifications for the color additive.
The FDA announced that it has filed a color additive petition submitted by the International Association of Color Manufacturers seeking to amend regulations governing carrot oil. The petition would allow the use of acetone as a solvent in the manufacture of carrot oil and would add heavy metal limits and secondary names for the color additive. FDA stated that it will review the petition and its environmental assessment and may consider additional regulatory changes as part of that review (Notice, 91 Fed. Reg. 53546 (Aug. 19, 2026)).
Dates. The color additive petition was filed on August 3, 2026. Either electronic or written comments on the petitioner’s environmental assessment must be submitted by September 18, 2026.
