The Finnish Government has launched a consultation on plans to increase the use of digital correspondence with taxpayers.

Draft legislation has been released that would expand the use of electronic notifications regarding tax decisions and the release of tax-related documentation.

Notifications would be received through OmaVero by taxpayers who have previously used the service or those required to accept electronic communications under the general regulation.

Taxpayers would be notified of these messages either through the e-mail address provided as part of registration or through the Suomi.fi messaging service.

Documents sent this way would be deemed to have been received on the third day after it was uploaded to OmaVero.

Taxpayers not required to accept electronic correspondence under the general regulation would be able to notify the tax authority that they do not wish to receive correspondence this way.

The changes would be effective from the beginning of next year.
