As detailed in previous Products Liability Law Daily stories, the following Consumer Product Safety Commission actions are open for public comment until the dates indicated below. Comments may be submitted to the docket number identified in the heading of the document by any of the following methods: Federal eRulemaking Portal: Go to http://www.regulations.gov. Follow the online instructions for submitting comments. March 11, 2024. CPSC has released its semiannual regulatory agenda, which includes regulatory actions that the agency expects to develop or review during the next 12 months (CPSC Notice, 89 FR 9670, February 9, 2024).
March 18, 2024. CPSC has proposed a rule to establish a safety standard for infant support cushions, which include infant pillows, infant loungers, nursing pillows with a lounging function, and infant props or cushions used to support an infant for activities such as “tummy time.” The proposal addresses the risk of death and injury associated with these products due primarily to suffocation, entrapment, and fall hazards (CPSC Notice of proposed rulemaking, 89 FR 2530, January 16, 2024).
March 29, 2024. CPSC has received a rulemaking petition to amend the final rule on button cell and coin battery packaging to allow for a smaller “Keep out of Reach” icon on the packaging’s principal display panel when space prohibits the full warning (CPSC Request for comment on petition for rulemaking, 89 FR 5438, January 29, 2024).
April 22, 2024. CPSC has received a rulemaking petition to mandate testing and labeling regarding the slip resistance (traction) of commercial and residential grade floor coverings; floor coatings and treatments; residential and commercial floor cleaning agents; and consumer footwear (CPSC Request for comments on petition for rulemaking, 89 FR 3914, January 22, 2024).
