Global Daily Tax News, Costa Rica Set To Launch New Tax Portal, (Jul 9, 2025)
Costa Rica's federal tax agency has confirmed plans to implement a new online tax portal, TRIBU-CR, as well as a free electronic invoicing service, Tico Factura.
The agency has confirmed that, in preparation for the transition, several platforms and tools will be deactivated on July 18. TRIBU-CR will go live on August 4, 2025. The tax agency has warned that where it detects inconsistencies regarding tax credit claims, for which additional documentation is required, these amounts will not be migrated over to the new system.
During the first phase of implementation, taxpayers will be able to use TRIBU-CR to file declarations and make payments electronically; review previously filed documents; access their comprehensive tax account; view and send communications and notifications; access single tax registry-related services; and verify taxpayer ID numbers.
The free electronic invoicing solution Tico Factura will be added on September 1, 2025.
The tax agency said the new system is intended to be more modern and user-friendly. A key innovation, it said, is the introduction of "Tax Vector" (Vector Fiscal), which will inform each taxpayer, from the moment they register, of their tax obligations, including information on the tax returns they must file and when payments are due, among other things.
