Country music station allegedly posted a copyrighted storm-chasing video to its Facebook account without permission.
A prominent country music radio station in the Dallas-Fort Worth area committed copyright infringement when it posted to its social media account a video taken by a storm chaser without permission, a new federal lawsuit asserts. The lawsuit is the latest in a long string of legal actions against alleged infringers that have been brought in recent years by the same copyright owner (Global Weather Productions LLC v. Cumulus Media Inc. d/b/a 99.5 The Wolf, No. 3:26-cv-00686-E (N.D. Tex. Mar. 3, 2026)).
The lawsuit arises out of a video taken by Christopher Blake Brown. professional storm chaser who works with Texas Storm Chasers and hosts a podcast called Wide Angles. Brown created a video of extreme winds flipping over semi-trucks in Amarillo, Texas, during a 2025 storm. He allegedly licensed rights for various uses, including online and print publications, to Global Weather Productions LLC.
Global Weather’s lawsuit takes aim at Cumulus Media, the owner and operator of hundreds of radio stations across the country including a country music called 99.5 The Wolf. According to the complaint, the radio station posted the video to its Facebook page without permission. The complaint asserts that “a number” of copyright lawsuits have been filed against Cumulus Media, thus “highlighting a pattern of habitual infringement and suggesting [it] has either failed to rectify systemic issues leading to these infringements or is willfully neglecting copyright laws.”
Global Weather seeks awards of actual damages and disgorgement of the defendant's profits or, in the alternative, statutory damages, as well as injunctive relief.
The lawsuit is just the latest of dozens to be filed by Global Weather Productions in recent years. IP Law Daily has documented several of its other lawsuits here, here, and here.
The Case is No. 3:26-cv-00686-E.
