The FTC has announced that it will hold a public roundtable on June 19, 2013, in Washington, D.C., to discuss possible changes to its Guides for the Jewelry, Precious Metals, and Pewter Industries.
The Guides, also known as the Jewelry Guides, provide guidance to businesses on complying with the FTC’s rules regarding deceptive claims about precious metal, pewter, diamond, gemstone, and pearl products, and on making appropriate disclosures. The FTC last comprehensively reviewed the Guides in 1996, but has modified them four times since then. The FTC is conducting its current review of the Guides as part of its systematic review of all current FTC rules and guides.
The FTC will hold the roundtable from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in its Satellite Building Conference Center at 601 New Jersey Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. The event will be free and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. To pre-register, attendees may e-mail their name and affiliation to Lkoss@ftc.gov.
Comments on specific questions to be addressed at the roundtable may be filed by June 5, 2013, by writing "Jewelry Guides Roundtable, 16 CFR Part 23, Project No. G711001" on the comment and submitting it through the FTC’s web-based form here or by mailing them to Federal Trade Commission, Office of the Secretary, Room H-113 (Annex O), 600 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W., Washington, D.C. 20580.
