On March 1, the Canada Competition Bureau will launch Fraud Prevention Month (FPM) by announcing the National Top 10 Scams alongside Option consommateurs, Union des consommateurs, and other partners of the Fraud Prevention Forum in Montreal, the Bureau announced today. This event is organized in conjunction with a Better Business Bureau FPM launch event held in Vancouver.

According to the Bureau, this year marks the 12th anniversary of the annual education and awareness campaign that began in 2004 by encouraging Canadians to recognize, reject, and report fraud. Fraud Prevention Month is a unique effort that brings together 125 law enforcement agencies and public and private sector organizations to combat fraud.

During the month of March, the Bureau and its partners in the Fraud Prevention Forum carry out numerous activities and host a variety of events to inform Canadians about the impact of fraud and how to protect themselves.

The Bureau has created a fraud prevention portal that provides information on recognizing and reporting fraud, and other resources for consumers to help them fight fraud.
