Spanish tax officials continue to provide capacity building support to Colombia's tax agency on international tax matters.

Following seven missions in 2023, Spain's State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT) visited Colombia for an eighth time, earlier this month, to discuss international tax law enforcement and administration.

During the mission, Colombian officials met with more than 40 officials from the AEAT and the Subdirectorate of International Taxation of Spain's Finance Ministry. Colombia's tax agency said the exchange allowed them to learn first-hand about the procedures, best practices and methodologies implemented in international taxation, including topics such as the negotiation of agreements to avoid double taxation, transfer pricing, advance price agreements, and the exchange of tax information.

The Colombian tax agency, DIAN, said: "This approach will not only contribute to improving DIAN's processes, but will also strengthen its capacity to implement optimal technologies and organizational models. In addition, the knowledge acquired about the internal structure and operation of the AEAT will allow DIAN to optimize the service offered to taxpayers and consolidate DIAN as a leader in the region on international taxation issues."
