The Senate today confirmed Adam Cassady to lead the State Department’s Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy by a vote of 51-47. Mr. Cassady was confirmed as part of an en bloc package of 74 nominees.

Mr. Cassady, who has been the deputy head of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, was nominated by President Trump in March to be the State Department’s ambassador at large–cyberspace and digital policy, a Senate-confirmed role established by the 2022 Cyber Diplomacy Act.

Mr. Cassady’s confirmation was applauded by NTIA and several telecom and technology trade groups.

“As NTIA’s Deputy Administrator, Adam was critical to many of the agency’s most significant achievements in advancing America’s technology leadership and protecting our interests abroad. His experience makes him exceptionally well-suited to represent America’s strength on the world stage,” NTIA Administrator Arielle Roth said in a statement.

“Throughout his career, Adam has helped shape U.S. communications and technology policy, bringing deep expertise in spectrum and international technology issues. His thoughtful leadership and collaborative approach will serve the United States well as he advances our nation’s interests in global technology and digital policy,” NCTA said in a statement.

“Ambassador Cassady brings deep expertise in spectrum and technology policy from his time at NTIA and the FCC, and his leadership comes at a pivotal moment for American competitiveness in global technology standards. We look forward to working with him to advance U.S. interests in international spectrum policy and ensure America continues to lead the world in wireless innovation,” CTIA President and Chief Executive Officer Ajit Pai said in a statement.

“Ambassador Cassady’s experience at federal agencies, including the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on critical spectrum, broadband, and digital issues, uniquely positions him to champion U.S. technology interests abroad and help strengthen America’s global leadership in Wi-Fi,” WifiForward said in a statement.
